"I came to the Family Story Workshop with a bag of old documents and no idea where to start. By the end of the afternoon I had sorted everything into the template and felt — for the first time — that I actually understood what I had. The facilitator was calm throughout and never made anyone feel rushed."

"My mother and I attended the Generations Conversation Session together. I wasn't sure she'd be comfortable, but the session opened in a very gentle way and she ended up being the one who wanted to keep talking after we got home. The prompt cards have been useful since — we've used them at two family dinners."

"I joined the Heritage Membership after attending the Family Story Workshop and I'm glad I did. The monthly sessions cover different topics each time and I always find something new to think about. It's become a quiet habit — a few hours each month doing something practical for my family's records."

"I came in expecting something more like a seminar. It was actually quite personal — in a good way. The group was small and everyone was working on something similar, which made it feel less daunting. I found the records checklist the most useful part; I've referred back to it several times since."

"What I appreciated was the honesty about what the session wouldn't do — the facilitator was clear that this was education, not advice. That actually made me more comfortable, not less. I didn't feel like I was being steered anywhere. The conversation prompts my husband and I used afterward were a real starting point for some long-overdue discussions."

"I've been a Heritage Member for about eight months. The sessions are consistently well prepared and the topics vary enough that I've learned something new each time. The recordings are especially helpful — I've gone back to a few of them at home when I was working through a particular section of my records."

A Closer Look at Three Participant Journeys
These accounts describe the situation participants came from, what they found useful, and where things stood when they followed up with us.
A Box of Documents, No Clear Picture
THE SITUATION
A retired couple from Nakhon Ratchasima had accumulated forty years of family documents — land records, old photographs, identity papers, insurance files — spread across several boxes with no consistent system. After a health scare, they felt it was time to get organised but weren't sure what they actually had or how to approach it.
WHAT THEY USED
They attended the Family Story Workshop together. Using the Storyline Template, they mapped out which document types existed in the household. The records checklist helped them identify gaps. By the end of the session they had a clear picture of what they had, what was missing, and which categories needed attention first.
SIX WEEKS LATER
When they followed up, they had reorganised documents into labelled folders using the checklist as a guide and completed two sections of the Storyline Template at home. They noted that the process had surfaced some documents they hadn't seen in over a decade and prompted them to contact a solicitor separately about one matter. They have since joined the Heritage Membership.
"We didn't realise how much we had — or how much we'd been putting off — until we actually sat down with a template and went through it. That afternoon did more for our peace of mind than years of meaning to get around to it."
Three Generations, Three Different Ideas About How to Talk
THE SITUATION
An adult daughter wanted to have a conversation with her parents about their wishes and records but didn't know how to raise the subject without it feeling uncomfortable or inappropriate. Her parents were in their seventies and had never discussed these things with anyone in the family.
WHAT THEY USED
All three attended the Generations Conversation Session. The session structure introduced the topic through general educational content first, which meant no one person felt singled out or put on the spot. The prompt cards gave them a way to continue the conversation at home, starting from whichever card felt most comfortable.
TWO MONTHS LATER
The daughter reported that they had worked through several prompt cards over the following weeks. Her parents were more open to the conversations than she'd expected. They hadn't made any formal decisions, but the family now shared a clearer understanding of each other's wishes on a number of topics. She described the session as having "broken the ice without making it an event."
"My parents would never have agreed to go to a lawyer or a planner to talk about this stuff. But a workshop about family records — that felt like something we could all get behind."
Ongoing Learning, Steady Progress
THE SITUATION
A local business owner who attended the Family Story Workshop wanted to continue learning about record-keeping but found his schedule difficult to plan around. He was looking for something flexible — resources he could access at different times — rather than committing to fixed session dates.
WHAT HE USED
He joined the Heritage Membership, primarily for the session recordings. Over the first six months he watched recordings from eight sessions across a range of topics, downloaded several template packs, and attended two live sessions when his schedule allowed. He found the self-paced aspect particularly useful.
AT MONTH EIGHT
He had completed a full records inventory for his household, organised his business-related documents using a separate template from the membership library, and shared a set of prompt cards with his younger sister, who attended the Generations Conversation Session a month later. He renewed his membership for a second year.
"Being able to watch recordings when I had an hour free was what made the membership work for me. I couldn't have committed to fixed monthly dates, but I've still covered a lot of ground."
